What does blogging mean to me? An introspection….

After a break of two weeks, I am back with another post; a tag! πŸ™‚ I was tagged by Alexis Leon, one of my favourite bloggers, friends and mentors. This one is about blogging and the last item on the list seems to be far-out, yet so cute. πŸ™‚

Please read on:

1. Are you happy/satisfied with your blog, with its content and look? Does your family know about your blog?

I am very much satisfied with my blog, both with looks and content. I still love to have the features like the new archives Blogger Beta offers. I have switched to Beta, but am still using my own template. I do not know the code for the new archives and where to use it in my existing template! πŸ™‚ I am so happy with the content so far, since it allowed me to speak out certain thoughts I had to constrict within me for long. My family knows about my blogging, and they are very supportive. My mother is, at times, concerned about some of the items I write on my blog though! πŸ™‚

2. Do you feel embarrassed to let your friends know about your blog or you just consider it as a private thing?

In fact, I am so happy to let my friends know about my blogging. There is nothing to feel embarrassed here, as I do not deal with issues that call for embarrassment. It is private, but still not completely. Private in the sense that I am the one controlling the flow here; I can make decisions on the comments and settings. Just that! One other striking thing is that my blog was responsible for my employment. I got a call for the job by the concerned after they went through my blog. That was interesting; an honour I would cherish forever!

3. Did blogs cause positive changes in your thoughts?

Yes, some blogs are truly amazing. I got to know and acquaint with people belonging to various places, of various origins and of various dialects. The content they deal with are so impressive. I like certain aspects like their styles, ways of writing, subjects they deal with etc. I could develop some instant thoughts reading certain blog entries, subjects which I haven’t even imagined before. It is always helpful when you actually need to think on that particular subject at a later time. Those have served many times as building blocks of knowledge for me. Also, I have been contacted by magazines and websites for working with them. I count all of those as plusses I got from blogging.

Negative issues also happened with my blogging. One of the entries on my blog was plagiarised by the ‘great’ Dr Dipak Basu, a then Organiser writer. At the same time, I consider it as another honour! πŸ™‚

4. Do you only open the blogs of those who comment on your blog or you love to go and discover more by yourself?

I always open the blogs of those who comment on my blog, just to see who it is and what that person’s blog is all about. I ramble within their blogroll and open others’ blogs and try to leave comments if required. I also roam within some blogroll websites and open their lists to find out more. But if time is limited, I will read the blogs of my blog pals only.

5. What does visitors counter mean to you? Do you care about putting it in your blog?

Visitor count is a reflection of how popular your blog is. The count increasing by itself is a welcome sign even if you do not get much responses as comments. The trackers would give you an indication of how long a person was at your blog and what all pages and posts he/she visited in the meantime etc. Also, it is not mandatory that a person has to leave a comment after reading a blog. I have placed the counter on my blog and I don’t see anything bad in it.

6. Did you try to imagine your fellow bloggers and give them real pictures?

Yes, I have always imagined how my fellow bloggers are ‘in real’. πŸ™‚ Some of them have displayed their images on their blogs which is also helpful to get a clearer perception. Some of my blog pals are my good friends too, like in chatting and other social groups such as Orkut. I have spoken to some of them on phone and have met a few of them in real. Their writing is just an indication of what they are.

7. Admit. Do you think there is a real benefit for blogging?

There is. As I said before, it would help your perception and understanding grow beyond your own boundaries swiftly. It will give you more inputs and suggestions regarding the same subject. I will think over certain issues even after closing the blog, and that would inculcate certain good decision making skills and knowledge in you.

8. Do you think that bloggers society is isolated from real world or interacts with events?

This question is frivolous. Bloggers are all part of the society. They are all humans, they have likes and dislikes and they are like any other person. They blog because they are in touch with the society and they are interacting with events. Also, people blog not for any benefits they seek out of it, though there are exceptions. That itself is an indication of their passion for expressing their thoughts and sharing it with the public.

9. Does criticism annoy you or do you feel it’s a normal thing?

The best thing I would like to have is criticism. Your lopsided thoughts can change only when you are criticised by some knowledgeable person. But there are people who criticise for the sake of doing it. I do not like to entertain such fellas.

10. Do you fear some political blogs and avoid them?

Never! I like to look at politics in a satirical way. It is the best action ground you can run across. I myself deal with some issues, which I would say are more social and historical than political. I always like to read political blogs. πŸ™‚

11. Did you get shocked by the arrest of some bloggers?

Not at all. Blogging should also be controlled, but by an effective system. If there is some sound reason for the blocking of blogs or the arrest of some bloggers, I would back it. But recently, the Indian government acted foolishly by blocking all the blogs coming in the blogspot domain and that was an act we needed to dissent seriously.

12. Did you think about what will happen to your blog after you die?

I have thought about it many times. All I know is that it would be a big loss for me! πŸ™‚ I have read somewhere in the Blogger terms and conditions a long time back that they do not wish to delete an account once created. If it is so, I will be only pleased that it remains after me. But my domain www.sreejith.info would expire and will be open for booking again. I also wish to book it permanently if there is an option, so that it also stays and continues to spread my ghost! πŸ™‚

13. What do you like to hear? What’s the song you might like to put a link to in your blog?

These are a few lines from one of my favourite English poems Ode to the West Wind by Percy Bysshe Shelley. I like the power these lines give forth, especially the two lines marked in teal colour below.

“If I were a dead leaf thou mightest bear;
If I were a swift cloud to fly with thee;
A wave to pant beneath thy power, and share

The impulse of thy strength, only less free
Than thou, O uncontrollable! If even
I were as in my boyhood, and could be

The comrade of thy wanderings over Heaven,
As then, when to outstrip thy skiey speed
Scarce seem’d a vision; I would ne’er have striven

As thus with thee in prayer in my sore need.
Oh, lift me as a wave, a leaf, a cloud!
I fall upon the thorns of life! I bleed!

A heavy weight of hours has chain’d and bow’d
One too like thee: tameless, and swift, and proud.”

This was a very interesting tag and my honest thanks to Alexis for handing it over to me. I now tag Gaurav, Srijith, Velu, Ajith, Strictly, Venus, Alex and Maya, plus anyone else who wants to take up this sweet taglet.

  1. Nice answers to all the questions., sreejith.. I dont think it will be much different, my answers to the questions… Sreejith, both our names and thoughts match at most times..
I shall take my time to do this one however.. do this one day when I can look back at my blog posts and go into retrospection like you did..
I believe only a senior blogger like you can give wholesome meaningful responses to these questions on the tag.

    With Best Regards,
    Srijith Unni.

  2. Re: Srijith Unni

πŸ™‚ Thanks a lot for the view. Yes, most of the time we give the same opinion on others’ blogs. The tag is an interesting one, but most people would give it the same response I think. Take care….

  3. Nice post. I am glad for one this tag is spreading and many people are taking it up, as you can see the person’s perception of his writing in this tag. Great answers, fitting to a serious blogger that you seem to be (Sorry, landed on your blog pretty recently, so have to read your back-blog yet)

Meawhile, do you mean “labels” in blogger beta when you said new archiving?

  4. Aha!!! Now thats an interesting one!! And I have been tagged by the same tag by two of my blogger friends!! WoWW!!! πŸ˜€

I was stunned by the selection of your song; Ode to the West Wind… hmmm… I remember sitting somewhere lost in a crowd in a graduation class and not making head or tail of the poem as it was recited before us in all glory. Strange how one learns and unlearns as the years pass by….

How do I get to meet you on Orkut, by the way??? πŸ™‚

Am gonna take up this tag once the clock strikes twelve tonight!! πŸ˜‰ πŸ™‚ thxxxx!! πŸ˜€

  5. Blogging is the latest form of
Therapy to maintain emotional balance in a world gone crazy.

    Consider this: What drives people
    into behavioral patterns that are
suspect? Make a list, placing the
most common (for you) at the top.

    1. Religion 2. Politics 3. Sports
    4. Music(esp.teens) 5. Self-Worship
    6. Celebrity Worship 7. Food 8. Sex
    9. Pets 10. Violence/Now,your list!

Discuss each, in the order of your
personal view. Did you learn today anything useful by taking test? reb

    (See Psycology Post)

  6. Brilliant.
I like the way your mind works.
It reflects in your writing, the purity of it all.
Total honesty and open minded frankness.
That is why I love reading what you have to say πŸ™‚
keep it up and I shall take up the tag soon πŸ™‚ thank you

  7. My mother is, at times, concerned with some of the items I write on my blog though! πŸ™‚

    lol … can understand her.

ellaborate, subjective answers to all the questions. you have taken the time to explain it so well..

the best part i truly should praise is…….ur choice of English poem Ode to the West Wind by Percy Bysshe Shelley..

Sreejith, this poem is fresh in my mind. last night was reading the same with my son, as he has a test on it today.

“Oh, lift me as a wave, a leaf, a cloud!”

so like NEtaji Subhash Chandra Bose. i am sure he too would have loved those lines.

  8. Re: Fleiger

The answers are straight, yes. Thanks a lot for your comments. In fact, I also came to your blog only recently from Silverine’s posts I think. πŸ™‚

No, I didn’t mean the new ‘Labels’. I mentioned about the new archives in the form of the dropdown menus. The expanded/collapsed view seems very interesting because once you click on the archive month, all of the posts in that month are displayed. It is good…

  9. Re: Velu Nair

Nice to know that you are a victim of two people now on this one! πŸ™‚

Hahha! In fact, I was disinterested in this poem in the beginning. But those two lines I mentioned there were hard to ignore and I developed an instant taste with this one.

I saw the invite on Orkut and have added you as friend already! πŸ™‚

Please take up this tag even if the clock is dead by then! πŸ˜€ LOL! Waiting for your views on your blog….

  10. Re: Snake Hunters

I thought this was a spam comment, because my email settings told me so. In any case, the subject is related to blogging, and here are my answers.

I do not blog about all the items you have listed there. I do not like discussing religion and sex on my blog. Religion is largely misrepresented these days. People just fail to understand that it is nothing more than a way of life. Today it is all about discrimination and the try to dominate over another’s faiths.

Politics and Sports do feature on my blog. Tags are there to express the self, but I don’t think it has anything to do with self-worship. Others seem to come here and there, but not in any serious form.

Anything useful? Yes, this was anothers self-contemplation.

  11. Re: Maya Cassis

Thanks a lot Maya for the encouragement you give me. About open-mindedness and frankness; I don’t think we can achieve anything by distorting facts and your actual thoughts. Let it flow like a rill, and that will be your personality. That is my take. You like that because you are also a person of the same built.

Waiting to see your responses to the tag questions on your blog. πŸ™‚

  12. Re: Passerby55

Yah, she is concerned about some of the items on my blog! Too much open criticisms she says! :-))

Thanks a lot for the support PB!

In fact, I do not remember 98% of the words, as you know this is a lengthy but great poem. Those two lines were always fresh in my mind!

In fact, Bose was a good reader of Charles Dickens’, William Shakespeare’s and PG Wodehouse’s etc. He must also have been in love with this Shelley classic! πŸ™‚

  13. Sreejith,
It is ony after reading this post i came to know that your work had been plagiarised. With the fast growing internet, it is becoming extremely difficult to monitor these ‘copy cats’.
I wonder what is refraining them from citing the source.

Anyways i finished the tag. πŸ™‚

  14. Oh that… I tried to find the code for that, but to no avail. I guess there are some blogger hacks out there, but they need some major changes. In fact, this was one of the factors (with labels and label index) that prompted me to change my main blog to new template.

  15. Re: Fleiger

Yah, I also tried to look up hack sites, but failed with the search! 😦 Labels are also good, that I am testing now…. Would have been great if the code were available….

  16. That was a really nice read. I especially liked your honesty about the whole thing. The link you gave (regd. Dr. Dipak Basu) took me into another world that you have contact with. You surely have been into quite a bit with your blogging!!

Also, I loved the poem you cited. And finally, thanks for tagging me!! I’ll take this up soon πŸ™‚

  17. Re: Gaurav Jain

    Welcome my tag victim! πŸ™‚

Yes, within the last one year so much happened with my blogging! A spat with Dr Basu, and he lost his contract with the Organiser; then some Mission Netaji activities; a couple of interviews!; then I got my job etc…. Overall it had more plusses than minuses! πŸ™‚

    Waiting to comment on yours!

  18. Re: James Bright

Thanks a lot for the comments Doctor! I am glad that you liked it. I would love to write esp for magazines; there were a couple of offers but I didn’t take up those. But yes, I like writing… πŸ™‚

  19. Sreejith, Sorry for being late. Thanks for taking and completing the tag. Wonderfully done, I should say.

I can only be satisfied with your blog only if you add an on-line dictionary with it. Before I start reading your blog, I make it a point to keep a dictionary handy. You should spend less time with you β€˜favorite’ book πŸ™‚

My mother is, at times, concerned with some of the items I write on my blog though! πŸ™‚ LOL

Getting the job and more job opportunities through the blog show the power of blogs. Yes, your writing and research skills do help. Keep it up.

Your answer to question 8 is bang on target.

You love criticism. I can see that in the comments section of the blog πŸ™‚

Regarding point number 12, you can renew a domain for 100 years.

Ode to the West Wind, I was teaching my nephew this poem a week back for his 10th standard CBSE.

    Really enjoyed reading this one…

  20. Re: Alexis Leon

In fact it is my pleasure to take a tag from you! πŸ™‚

Online dictionary >> LOL! I try to get more words with similar meanings and that creates the problem! Anyway, I liked that comment really well; very funny! I think this is the second time you are saying this to me!!!!

Yes, in fact I am obliged to Blogger for my employment! LOL!

I like criticism, yes! When people tend to be different, ideas become more strong and flowing.

I see, it should be great if I could book this domain for a 100 years from now! The title will have to be changed to <>“A Dead Man’s Logs”<> down the road!

Yes, Ode to the West Wind is a classic. I also chanced upon it the first time as my school text!

I really enjoyed doing this one! My sincere thanks to you for throwing this to me…. πŸ™‚

  21. Yes, I was kind of in love with my template before I had to change it. The “labels index” code produced some horrible results there 😦

  22. Hello Sreejith!!!
Sorry for being late..actually you know about the server problem @ my place.

It was great to know more about you. Your answers were well thought and straight from heart.

Regarding Archive option.. try this Hacking blog[Link]…you’ll find the code in some of the posts in this blog. Or else try the help Blogger provides.
I’m obliged to meet you on Orkut.

  23. Re: Sunil Parmar

Yes, I know the problem! πŸ™‚

Thanks a lot mate for the link. I shall check that. But I am not that tech savvy if the code is complicated! πŸ™‚ As of now, Blogger help doesn’t provide this.

I am also too happy to meet you on Orkut!

  24. Re: Mona

Welcome Mona! Yah, that song is a classic from Shelley…

Tags are everywhere and this one has found a place in almost all the blogs! πŸ™‚

    Do visit again please…

  25. This is a great tag. I think the best one on the topic of blogs. Your answers are really well thought out and well written.

Thanx for dropping by my blog. πŸ™‚

  26. You have selected a very meaningful song!

I also like your confidence in not avoiding political or any “could-be” controversial blogs πŸ™‚

  27. Re: Venus

Thanks a lot for the appreciation Venus!

Hhaha! There is no point in avoiding the “could be” controversial blogs if they are dealing with nothing but truth. The “could be” usage here was interesting!

  28. SriJ:

Just wonder how I miseed this post Hmmm…

Hey, you did a fantastic job and you seem to have taken time to express yourself in detail and awesome.

You must have more patience right??

  29. Nice tag! enjoyed reading your interesting answers. Thanks for dropping by… I am only curious how you found me, but I am glad you did so that I could stop over here! have a wonderful weekend! πŸ™‚

  30. Re: Mar

πŸ™‚ Nice to see you here. I came to your blog from the comments section of another blog. Thanks a lot for the kind words here. Hope to see more of you. Happy weekend to you too…..
